Storage Solutions History

Established in 1993, Storage Solutions has saw extensive growth as a specialist in design manufacture and installation of solutions for a wide range of storage applications. The company was originally set up as a warehouse and logistics consultancy by the founder but swiftly moved into offering a craddle to grave package including design consultancy, project management, supply and installation of industrial and commercial facilities.

By 1995 the company had set up an industrial equipment catalogue and an early adopter of the power of the web. BY 1998 the company had a full transactional website developed in house offering a wide range of storage products. These included plastic storage containers , parts bins, pallet racking and shelving systems through to office furniture.

In 2007 Storage Solutions moved into manufacturing with the acquistion of the former Spur Shelving factory in Great Torrington Devon and the manufacturing assets of Halifax based Nicholl & Wood. This opperation is now able to produce a very wide range of products covering domestic through to industrial applications. These products include the Spur ®, Zamba ® ranges of shelving and storage products including the world renowned Steel-Lok wall mounted shelving system. These ranges are available as pre-packed flat pack units or in component form for project based applications.

Storage Solutions projects division provides a one-stop project management service for converting industrial buildings into offices with a design and build service that deals with all aspects, from planning approval to completion. We will install partitioning, electrics, air conditioning, fire alarms, carpets, washrooms, all the way down to the stapler on the desk. The benefit of scale gives us the ability to offer excellent value with minimum stress for the client, who can then concentrate on running their own business.

2019 -2021

Storage Solutions factory in Devon closed with the industrial products, production and the Storage Solutions name being acquired by Sperin Metal Products Ltd, the respected manufacturer of pallet racking and industrial shelving systems based in Northern Ireland. The Spur brand, tooling and manufacturing equipment transfered to Asset Protecion and Licencing Ltd. Their Agent Eff Manfacturing now handels the sales and manufacturing of the range from Cradley Heat in the West Midlands, both usineses remai under the control of the original founder of Storage Solutions who is committed to further expansion.

March 2007

Storage Solutions re-opened manufacturing a manfacturing plant, once run by Spur Shelving, to manufacture domestic, retail and commercial shelving products. Existing products include bolted and boltless shelving systems, packed for retail distribution, and medium span archive racks as the core product range. The company also has equipment to manufacture a number of twin-slot wall mounted shelving components and an aluminium cantilever range.

April 2007

Storage Solutions acquires manufacturing equipment from Nicholl and Wood, the manufacturers of Zamba shelving, who entered voluntary liquidation this month. The equipment will bolster production at Torrington and has enabled the rapid development of a series of new products using the best designs from both the Spur and Zamba lines.

September 2007

Storage Solutions takes action in High Court over malicious accusations of IP infringement and patent infringement causes the company to loose major contracts.

June 2008

Settlement agreed in High Court case with defendant's shelving business transferring to Storage Solutions. (The three defendants all ceased to trade in 2009 as did the American parent company.)

August 2008

Storage Solutions launches new recession beating shelving ranges and introduces heavy duty and medium duty bolted shelving.

January 2009

New distributors launch into office shelving market as Storage Solutions bolsters itself for the recession, making further investment in web technology.

June 2009

New e-commerce site launches at https://storage-solutions.co.uk. This site written by Mikado Computing another business managed by Peter Sully is within days gaining top positions on Gooogle and Yahoo. Further sites to be rolled out using the platform during the coming year.

August 2009

Major changes made in factory as production lines are updated and consolidated to increase capacity and efficiency. All machines upgraded to electronic control, reducing waste and cutting energy consumption by as much as 60%

November 2009

Storage Solutions launches shelving into the industrial market with Storage Direct as first major distributor.

2010 - 2011

Storage Solutions rides the recessionary storm investing in improvements to the factory and winning significant contracts including the contract to fit-out 99P Stores central distribution centre.

Light Industrial shelving system is launched which is ideal for retail stock rooms and warehouses for flat garment and FMCG products where industrial strength is not required.

2012

Storage Solutions acquires the Spur registered trademarks good will and rights in the Spur brand and product ranges from the company formerly known as McKechnie.

2013

August - Steel-Lok wall mounted shelving back to full production as a result of the large investments made over the past 3 years. 220 and 270 blank production re-tooled and 80 Tonne power press installed.

September - Spur rolled edge Document and Archive system launched targetting museums, hospitals and education market.

December - Storage Solutions gains Judgment in the IPEC a section of the High Court London. Storage Solutions 'v' Mercer & Sons sets new legal precedent over infringement of the SPUR and SPUR Shelving registered trademarks. Peter Sully who represented the company at the Royal Courts of Justice said 'It is always regretable to have to turn to the law, but anyone who wishes to risk British Manufacturing jobs by infringing our brands now knows the consequences."

2014

January - Action continues over infringement of registered trademarks with EBay being wiped clean of infringing listings and letters being served on major distributors and importers of shelving systems.
